how do you do ?
I was busied and I can't respond you in to my thread.
This version have the desktop button as I required to you, and so I must say a big THANK YOU, but I'waiting for an option to have the treeview panel, like in the windows explorer, on the leftside and the capability to have the explorer contex menù instead of the tabby file context menù.
Why do you not create a language file, so we can help you to translate this program for alla people?
In the future you can also add a plugin sistme so we can add personal feauter and give you an hand ;)
First of all I would like to thank you for creating such an amazing piece of software. I have tried quite a few Windows Explorer alternatives but they were mostly bulky and intimidating to use! But tabbyFile is just so...neat! There are a few bugs here and there but I was amazed by the intuitiveness and simplicity of the layout and especially the small memory footprint. Keep up the good work! From the posts I read the forum is just excellent and I would love to join this effort to make tabbyFile as good as possible and as well-known as I think it deserves to be. My notes on the program so far:
- I, too, had a problem adding to the favorite list because I thought that when I would click the add button the folder would be automatically added under its current name. However, your idea (of choosing a name) was even better and the help videos quickly answered my question.
- The infamous backspace bug also troubled me but I read it will be fixed in the next release so I'm holding my breath :)
- There seems to be a problem with unicode support. Being greek I have some files named in my native language but when I try to rename them they change to something like this "???f???? ???as???" as soon as I click on them once while being highlighted.
- What would you think if instead of having to press Enter to apply a filter it would be applied while typing (Just a thought). I know it might not be easy to keep a history list this way but if someone wants the filter stored he could still press enter to store it.
- There is also a small bug with typing in a browsing window. Normally when you type e.g. "pr" in a browser window first the letter "p" gets typed so the list highlights the first folder or file starting with "p" and when "r" is entered shortly after the first folder or file starting with "pr" is supposed to get highlighted. However, in tabbyFile 2 when you have a list of files that goes for example like this "Opera","Program Files","Programming" and you press "pr", "Program Files" gets highlighted first and then it shifts to "Programming" so that the second "pr" item gets the focus and not the first. You might say "Then just type "p" and not "pr"." but that way it takes longer to locate the desired item.
- And maybe a little extravagant feature request. What if tabbyFile could be run when double-clicking on My Computer icon or generally on folder icons anywhere even from within explorer. I have seen such a feature. What it basically does is that it changes the context menu for folders making the default action to be e.g. "Open with tabbyFile". I don't know if you like the idea, just giving some food for thought.
- Also, it would be nice if the user could toggle "layout memory" that when enabled it would create a temporary layout when the user closes tabbyFile. Then when tabbyFile is opened the layout would be loaded exactly as the user left it. This could be useful for people that don't want a default layout to be loaded everytime but instead pick up things where they left them off.
- One more thing...is it just me or middle clicking on "My Documents" doesn't work?
I am sorry for the length of my post but I got really excited with this program. There so much good stuff in it!
Many thanks for a program really well done!

As long as the program window is on the desktop, there is a taskbar button. When minimized there is no taskbar button, just a tray icon. Doesn't matter how many times I minimize and restore.
It's not a huge issue, but restoring from a tray icon can be awkward when you have a lot of icons in the tray, as I do on my work PC.

This is actually by design (perhaps not so good design :)) - there's never a task bar button when minimized - i guess I'll add another option for that in the next update.

OK. I obviously misunderstood the explanation for that switch. It would be cool if you could add that option when you get time.
It's not a huge issue by any means but it can be annoying to have to find that little tray icon when you have loads of them in there. I would find it quicker just to bring the program window back up by clicking a button on the task bar.
Cheers. Still liking the program. My only reason for using Windows Explorer occasionally is when browsing my mobile phone (runs Windows Mobile) from my PC. I guess TabbyFile won't work for that as it would need to communicate via Microsoft ActivSync (the 'go-between' software when connecting a Windows Mobile device to an XP PC).
TabbyFile gets used for everything else now!

I will fix the taskbar bug for sure for the next release. It's too bad your phone uses the go-between software - no idea why these devices just don't come up as another drive like usb sticks and such.
thanks! brad

I have just started using TabbyFile and I'm very impressed so far. The fact it is portable means I can use it at work as well!
Great work!
Just one issue I have noticed so far. The 'Show Taskbar Button' switch doesn't seem to work. When set to 'True' no button is displayed on the taskbar when you minimise the program, you just get the tray icon identical to setting the switch to false. I have tried this on two PC's (both with XP) and the problem appears on both.
Cheers,
Jason.

Is it possible to make a fix whereas it would replace Windows Explorer ? You know, click on it, and tabby2 pops up ?
A true gem!

Minor irritants...........hehe
Hi,....1st of all let me say, NICE replacement for that explorer sh*t.
However although I have been using Tabbyfile 2 for a few days now,
there are 4 things that are really irritating,......nothing big.
1. That drive toolbar stands out and looks ugly compared to the rest of the UI.
2.Need an Icon on the toolbar to " On and Off " the 2 pane option.
3.That drive toolbar also needs to show drive letter when aligned to left or right.
4.There is no option to lock the toolbars in place.
Otherwise this is a really good........er...Tabbyfile.
Thanks! All these thoughts
Thanks! All these thoughts will go into 2.1 development.

Keeping windows-style ;)
Hi,
just found tabbyfile and i like it!
But here comes a pretty bad bug:
In the "Options" menu, are the three dots (...) missing behind "Hotkeys...", "Switches..." and "Preferences..." ;)
I think there are pretty accepted in the windows world to indicated that a new "Box/Window" will pop up.
So, as u can see, tabbyfile is pretty cool if that's the only thing i possibly can moan about ;)
Cheers
