Wish List for new versions

Hey guys! Let's make this topic a brainstorming one. Think of things we would like to see in next releases or ideas you might have and post them here so that they are all in one place.

A feature that I think would be nice to implement is the use of the middle click on files to select (or rename) them. One of the great features of tabbyFile is the use of double and middle click to simplify certain frequently used actions. My idea is to use the middle click on files to select them so that you can pick multiple files without having to hold the ctrl button.

You could even take it a step further and let the user decide how he wants to use the middle, double, right clicks on each context (tabs, files, empty space, folders).

Hey guys - not sure what

Hey guys -

not sure what you mean songless.  You'll have to explain it in more depth.

Nick -

Well, if you load a layout, make changes to it, then save it with the same name, you've effectively edited it.  If you wanted to rename it though you would have to just load it, save it with a different name, and delete the old one.  Same goes for favorites.

The restore from tray hot key is no problem - an oversight more than anything.

thanks guys!

Yes, for example tabbyFile

Yes, for example tabbyFile when you right click in the folder background ( not over a file ) shows a menu with view, sort, grouping, close tabs... options.

Okay, my desire ( that must be weird, because anyone of the thousands file managers out there implements it ) is a personalizable menu for the user that reads the options from a INI/XML file. There are tons of appLaunchers that shows personalized menus ( PStart for example ).

But the real advantage of having this in a file manager is to receive as argument of the executable/script the menu invokes the current folder/file/files.

Example 1:

You have your website in d:\myWeb and you want to test some css modification. You right/middle-click in tabbyFile and... wow, there is a menu option to run your favorite portable web server in that folder.

Example 2:

You are browsing your favorite family photos and you want to resize some of them to 800x600 for uploading to Flickr. You select 8 photos, right-click and... a menu option to invoke your favorite resizer. And after that you want to rename them ( the camera always uses the same names ) and move to your upload folder, easy stuff with a autohotkey/powershell/bat/... script.

So the unique option in Windows to invoke executables/scripts from the file manager is the system context menu ( options saved in the registry, shell extensions COM objects ... ), would it be very difficult to let the user create a personalized menu ?

I see what you are saying

I see what you are saying now; It doesn't sound like the actual menu would be that difficult to implement using xml (I would probably not be writing new dialogs to edit the menu though - so you would need to know how to use xml effectively - not that it's not easy enough anyway), but it wouldn't be that difficult actually.  the whole gist, like you said, is to be able to send an argument to an executable and be able to fire it up from within tabby.  I'll toss it around.

thanks

I'm looking for the best way

I'm looking for the best way to integrate my scripts with tabbyFile, by the moment I continue using a context menu editor but I would love a personalizable menu in tabbyFile that doesn't depend on Windows registry like context menu editors and receives the current folder/file(s) selected as arguments.

Anyway, if someone knows a good trick let me know

Restore from tray hotkey & Favorite and layout edit

I checked out the older version of tabbyFile and it's really good too. Of course I found some things that were replaced with better features in the newer version (e.g. middle button click on browser window now opens a sort of "create new" list to choose from instead of scrolling the mouse), new features that are very convenient yet I also discovered some features that were missing from version 2.

It would be nice to bring back the "Restore from tray" hotkey function. It's REALLY useful!

And also the ability to rename and edit Favorites and Layouts was quite practical. It saves time from having to delete and redefine them. It would make a nice addition to version 2 as well.
